Fabric Seahorse Mobile
Did you know that seahorses stay with the same mate for life? I have to confess I didn't, until a fellow blogger tipped me off on a previous post (cheers, Marion!) With this in mind, I thought I'd go for a slightly less conventional idea for Valentines Day and have come up with this fabric mobile, complete with hanging heart (well, had to get a more traditional 'love' symbol in there somewhere!) The circle is actually an embroidery hoop, which has been bound with fabric strips and vintage buttons. Though it is intended as a Valentines gift, I can also see it hanging in a nursery or child's bedroom. For that reason I feel that I need to make another with a touch of pink to make it more appealing to little girls.
It's not a great photo, but I love the shadows the creatures cast on the wall!
Have a great weekend folks!
I think this is perfect, I especially love the linked tails and agree, would be lovely in a child's bedroom as well.
ReplyDeleteThey always look so serene. I love the entwined tails. Did you also know that it's the males that have the babies? xx
ReplyDeleteDelicious! Sweet and romantic, just like seahorses. Is that chicken wire you used for the fins?
ReplyDeleteI give my husband a seahorse every Valentine's Day - the seahorse is kind of our family emblem since the daddy takes care of the kids!
So my idea isn't so obscure after all! That is a lovely idea..the fins are made from one layer of silver ribbon I bought, and I did think it was reminiscent of small scale chicken wire, though much softer and less painful to work with. Thank you for your comment, much appreciated!
ReplyDeleteLovely again - there is a book by Eric Carle called Mister Seahorse - used to read it around Father's Day when I was a teacher! Has the most beautiful pictures. I will be in touch soon (been very busy - suprisingly) will try and email you next week. Best wishes for 2010. Becky
ReplyDeleteHappy Weekend to you!
