More paintbrush fish!

Hello my lovelies and a warm welcome to any new followers! I hope that many of you have been blessed, like us here in Cornwall, with warm sunny weather this weekend - such a bonus this time of year! It was definitely t-shirt weather here this afternoon - Herbie even asked if we could get the paddling pool out!
We had a very fruitful trip to the beach earlier - collected lots of little pieces of driftwood for cards and a huge amount of old paintbrush handles! Unfortunately they were plastic rather than wood, but they come in a nice assortment of colours, so I decided to put my plastic snobbery aside and get creating!
So this is the first piece showing a driftwood fishing boat and its 'haul'...

I've called it ' A Fine Catch'

I think the 'buoy' might be part of a fishing rod or float, but I'm not sure!
We also found this bit of plywood on the beach yesterday. It's got some old green paint on it, so I chose some co-ordinating fish from my large pile to make a unique and unusual wallhanging...

It's currently hanging in our hallway, but I think it would add a nice decorative touch to someone's shed... the rope would rot eventually, but the wood and 'fish' are obviously weather-resistant!
Both are available in my Folksy shop.

So what do you think? Can plastic be pretty? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

  3. Hello!
You had a good beachcombing spree!! I like your new pieces lots and lots (actually just been admiring yours and Pipanys stuff in the Not on the High Street gift guide) and I think the paintbrush handle fish are genius! As for plastic...hmmmm, well, you know its a good inventive solution for things that take 6 billion years to biodegrade (or however long), and I think they will be texturally (is that a word?) beneficial to your gorgeous creations! So that's a 'Yes' then :)
Glad you had a nice weekend!

    Much love

  7. I think that it is a really important thing to start valuing plastic - I want plastic to be available into the future and not just wasted as rubbish now - so I would say it isnot only beautiful as a fish, but responsible too! Thanks for your comments over on the blog - they made me laugh! Love Kate xxooxx.

  9. These are lovely. Plastic like this, you can see that it has history. I think anything with a history is pretty fine. Anyway you have saved the ocean of having more plastic swilling around it's shores, and that is just ace! lou x

  10. Well if people are going to discard these otherwise ugly things, what better place for them to land. You have turned them into something quite beautiful.

  11. Yes, yes, yes, plastic can be pretty, your art work and creations are proof or that. It's the ultimate in recycling. Making something beautiful from something nobody needs anymore. I love the fish in the net under the boat. Your imagination delights and amazes me. Thank you for sharing.
